Suit Up: How To Make A Suit Casual

The everyday suit has been on a steady rise in popularity for the past few years. Once exclusive to the men in the boardroom, the suit has slowly crept its way into the female wardrobe, the runway (it's a favorite of Cara Delevingne and Jameela Jamil, among many others), and finally the streets. It's no longer stiff, uptight, or boring. A good suit is cool, smart, and undeniably chic. So, how do you pull one off for everyday wear? It all comes down to the right styling.

Find the right fabric.

A good day suit won't be as tailored as a business suit. Look for softer fabrics that will keep the integrity of a suit while creating a gentler, more relaxed silhouette. These suits will be a lot more comfortable than their traditional counterparts!

Layer correctly.

What you wear the suit will determine the direction of your outfit. A shirt or blouse screams office, so choose something that will contrast with the formality of a suit. A t-shirt (plain or graphic) is a perfect choice. If it's a bit chilly out, add a touch of streetwear with a sweatshirt or hoodie. You can also add a sporty touch with a crop top if it's too warm for a long sleeve top. To add a feminine and romantic feel, choose a silk cami.

Choose your accessories wisely.

Accessories make the outfit, so they will complete the image you're trying to convey. Like a blouse, heels will instantly give a corporate feel to your look. That's perfectly fine if you want to create an on-trend yet business casual outfit. But if your end goal is more street-inspired, definitely stick with sneakers. You can also choose ankle boots to add a bit of edge.

But it's not all about the shoes. Adding a chunky necklace (like a chain necklace) will also add an unexpected touch that dresses your suit down. If you know you'll be out and about during the day, why not add a cool pair of sunglasses too?

Let down your hair.

Lastly, your hairstyle will be the finishing touch that defines your OOTD. All you have to do is avoid tight buns or ponytails, and you'll be fine! Whether it's loose waves or straight hair, a half-up/half-down do, or a messy ponytail/bun, you'll be golden.

Go halfsies.

If you don't want to wear a full suit just yet, fake it by wearing a different combination. You can create a suit effect with a blazer and matching shorts. Weather permitting, of course, though you can always add tights if it's not quite warm enough. Otherwise, choose pants that are the same color as your blazer, but a different fabric. Leather leggings or trousers are a great choice!
